Sometimes we all need a little helping hand and when you're exploring in a camper van...Brit Stops is it. With over 1000 participants so far, you'll never be short of somewhere to stay. Our membership was gifted to us by Joe, our eldest, who had heard about it through a friend and it has been invaluable in Little Blue...great gift!
WHAT IS BRIT STOPS?
Brit Stops have done all the hard work for you in devising a handy guide book of pubs, farms etc in the U.K. which will allow camper vans to park up overnight...for FREE! All patrons ask is that you buy a meal and/or a tipple or two in their establishment (everyone needs a meal and a drink after all that travelling), or fresh farm produce depending on where you've chosen to stay...BARGAIN.
Some establishments may want you to ring ahead due to limited car parking space. In all honesty though, to date, we've not had any issues with just turning up, enjoying a pint or two and settling in for the evening. Most of our trips are very spontaneous, if you prefer to plan and know exactly where you'll be staying, then ring ahead.
Please always make sure you introduce yourself to the host on your arrival to check that there is a space for you before parking up your van. Don't just assume it is your right to stay, it's polite to ask. The host may request to see your Brit Stops guide so always have it handy just in case. Ours lives in Little Blue.
Not all sites have facilities but pubs will generally allow you to use their toilets and some farms too. Some Brit Stops provide showers...ALWAYS a bonus. We stayed in one in Carlisle, The Metal Bridge, that even provided electric hook-up...great little place.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Log on to the Brit Stops website to sign up with your e-mail address and make your payment. It really couldn't be easier. Information on new, recently signed hosts will be forwarded to you via e-mail so keep your eyes open for updates and don't forget to check your junk mail.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
You will receive a Brit Stops guide book detailing participants, complete with a sample map of each area covered and a map pinpointing the whereabouts of hosts. It really is so easy to use.
Do BRIT STOPS cover the whole of the U.K?
Simple answer...no, not yet...but they're on it.
