HOME CITY STAY & Kampa Heater Review

12th February 2022

So back in February it was my birthday weekend trip...welcome Storm Dudley AND Storm Eunice, a double whammy...brilliant!!! Our 5 day trip to the Lake District was, needless to say, CANCELLED.

But hey, a bit of wind wasn't going to keep Little Blue on the driveway or keep me from an adventure just a couple of days before my operation. So a last minute 'home city stay' it was, the first we had done. We had to go somewhere because I couldn't wait to try out my birthday present...a new gas heater for those colder nights in Little Blue.

Armed with my wind and waterproof dry robe, which, for this stormy weekend was an essential, we headed into Bristol and up onto Durdham Downs. It's a beautiful stretch of open public parkland overlooking the Avon Gorge and Bristol's iconic Suspension Bridge.

We parked up in a secluded spot and the adventure had begun. A wet & windy wander down to the Everyman cinema on whiteladies Road for a luxury viewing (sofa seating and waiter/waitress service) of Belfast, a film that had been highly recommended and was on our wish list. A fantastic film followed by a pub crawl, there are loads of pubs, bars and restaurants in this area and the perfect end to the evening...a steaming bag of chips to devour as we battled the horrendous wind & rain back to find Little Blue.

WOW... the heater was great, it works, is easy to use and it's portable so can be used in an awning too. It's reasonably priced at £49.99 and runs on gas canisters, £6.00 for four. Each canister lasts around an hour and a half but with such a small space to heat we literally only needed it on for 15 minutes to get the van warm and toasty.

Two things to consider:

  1. To remain safe and avoid carbon monoxide fumes you will need to have a window open slightly to create an air flow. We have a carbon monitor just to be on the safe side.

  2. This heater runs on a naked flame so be careful to keep it in it's own space, away from anything flammable.

After snuggling up warm and cosy and being lulled to sleep with Little Blue rocking along in storm Dudley, breakfast was enjoyed overlooking Brunels' Suspension Bridge, which is just visible through the driving rain in the photo.

Here's a pic taken in finer weather to appreciate the bridge in all it's glory.

Despite the double storm, everything about my birthday weekend was perfect...i'm so obviously easy to please. Our first 'home city stay' completed successfully. Our first use of the new portable gas heater completed successfully...a successful trip all round.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO FAR FOR THE JOURNEY TO BEGIN!
