WHAT HAVE I BEEN READING?...in short.
Wild
Cheryl Strayed
Non fiction - auto-biography memoir
What an incredible book...it's got to be right up there as one of my all time favourites.
This beautifully written work of non fiction takes you, with Cheryl Strayed on her epic trek of the Pacific Coast Trail (PCT) from California to Canada...alone.
Following a childhood of pain and the tragic loss of her mother to cancer, Strayed 'strays' off track, making some questionable life decisions which eventually contribute to her need to'find herself'. Her strength of character and sheer determination to achieve her goal and succeed in turning her life around is inspirational and frankly, admirable. I had to keep reminding myself that this actually happened!
Strayed transports you into the 'Wild' with descriptions so vivid, you can almost feel the pain of her blistered feet and broken body. The trials and tribulations along the PCT are brought alive on the page, with her depth of description allowing the reader a sensory experience of her epic journey.
I couldn't put this book down and honestly didn't want it to end. Strayed has inspired me not only to explore more of the wild but also to push myself to experience what life has to offer outside of my comfort zone.
I would urge anyone to read this moving and inspirational memoir from Cheryl Strayed. I will definitely read it again and probably...again...it really is a great read. I LOVED this book.
