WHAT HAVE I BEEN READING?...in short.
The Apartment
K L Slater
Fiction based on true events - psychological thriller
This is a psychological thriller based on true events and is a quick read, more of a novella than a novel. I read it in 3 days...quick for me!
It follows the disturbing experiences of a single mother, Freya Miller and her 5 year old daughter, Skye. Recently widowed, Freya finds herself in the unfortunately desperate position of having to secure somewhere new to live and a chance meeting in a coffee shop appears to offer the solution. The charismatic Dr Marsden offers Freya an apartment in Adder House at a reduced rental rate which is just too good to turn down.
With the property situated in an exclusive area of London and the promise of a place for Skye in one the most sought after schools, the offer almost seems to good to be true. As Freya and Skye move into their new apartment it becomes quickly apparent that all is not as it seems. There are strange goings on which leave Freya feeling that both she and Skye are being watched. Skye becomes very unsettled at her new school and the Adder House residents all appear to have demons of their own to battle.
It's engaging and is a tense read in places, most definitely a page turner..So what is going on at Adder House? Who is Dr Marsden? And when Freya eventually decides what is best for her and Skye, will it be too late?
Well, you'll have to read it to find out and although it's difficult to believe, remember as you read, that remarkably, this is based on a true story!
If you're looking for a weekend read, this'll do the trick.
