LITTLE BLUE BOOK REVIEW

WHAT HAVE I BEEN READING?...in short.

This Is Going to Hurt

Adam Kay

Non Fiction - autobiography/memoir, humour

I've been around a lot of doctors lately so I thought it was time to pick up this book and give it a read and ironically I've read most of it in a hospital environment...very fitting.

Memorably moving and hilariously funny...it:s a gem. This is a very honest account of life as a junior doctor, Adam Kay, as he works his way up through the ranks of the NHS and it's a real eye opener to say the least.

Presented in short diary exerts (recorded as it happened), it's very easy to read and with no story as such to follow is easy to pick up and put down, though trust me you WON'T want to put it down.

This book really makes you empathise with our medical heroes and heroines. Their incredible dedication to the profession is evident throughout alongside highlighting the tremendous pressure faced, the horrific amount of hours worked and the fact that doctors are human too. There is nothing glamorous about being a doctor and although shocking, Kay presents his experiences with such raw honesty and humour that he literally had me tearing up in places then roaring with laughter just moments later.

The book is far more hilarious than the television dramatisation, so even if you've already watched it on television, I would still highly recommend it as a must read.

IT'S A GOOD ONE!
