So, a quick weekend trip down to The New Forest in Hampshire and what a beautiful part of the world it is. As we were with friends, we booked a campsite so we could all just park up, set up next to each other and spend the weekend relaxing together, which was not only lovely but also unusual for Chris and I...on all three counts...booking a campsite, going away with friends and relaxing!
MERCEDES CAMPERS
Hill Cottage Farm, Fordingbridge was a great find with superb facilities and lots of space, which I always find to be a positive. Nothing worse than camping almost on top of people you don't know...or even some people you do know for that matter. The staff were helpful and friendly and at just £27 per night, it was great value for money in my opinion. A recommended site for anyone wishing to visit the area I'd say.
The New Forest really does have something for everyone:
Stunning and extensive forest paths where you can wander for hours (or if you get lost...days!) amonst the natural beauty in the New Forest National Park.
There are many gorgeous beaches close to the National Park.
Wild horses roam the forest...and sometimes venture onto the roads, so please drive carefully.
An array of lovely little historical towns and villages to wander and browse.
Historical sights such as Godshill and Castle Hill or Rockbourne Roman Villa, not far from our campsite in Fordingbridge.
Great pubs and restaurants...how can you tell that we couldn't be bothered to cook?
...and so much more.
The area is truly stunning and most definitely worth a visit.
We, I have to say did not do an awful lot. The weekend was for relaxing with friends ..which we did well! We did a forest walk from the campsite on Saturday in glorious weather and visited Barton-On-Sea for fish & chips and a blustery beach walk on Sunday. Both were equally enjoyable despite Sundays clouds of impending doom...Yes, it bucketed down! But hey, having a van means you're always prepared for whatever the weather ithrows at you and anyway I find the sea on a stormy day fascinating and the everchanging colours were amazing.
So fab to get away in our vans together, enjoying: a few drinks, eating great food (cooked for us), some idle, mostly nonsensical chatter (from Nick) and loads of spontaneous laughter. Loved our short time away, comparing van tips & tricks whilst relaxing in each others company.
Roll on the next time.
If you're considering getting a van...JUST DO IT!...there really is nothing more freeing.
