Woolacombe

8th October 2021

A spontaneous road trip down to the north coast of Devon and Woolacombe is, without doubt, one of southern England's very best beaches. Its 2km beach is long and wide and it attracts surfers from all over. I surfed (well, I say surfed,,,I mostly fell off but I tried!) here a lot in my younger years and loved every minute of it. Although still small, this seaside haven has changed hugely from those early days when The Red Barn was quite literally a surf shack... almost. Nowadays there are many places to eat, drink, relax and shop and Woolacombe is bustling with tourists and surfers for most of the year.

There are Brit Stops available but we decided, despite the 'No Camping Overnight Signs, to try our luck parking down on the beach road...what? everyone else was doing it!, just take a look.

Just cannot describe the amazing sight of all the fellow campers and the sense of belonging. There was a real sense of 'we're all in this together' and Little Blue' fitted right in (to the only parking space available...luckily!)

The most perfect couple of days, spectacular sunsets, fish and chip suppers, long beach and headland walks, relaxation, reading AND of course the obligatory morning sea swim! Just one thing to consider though when parked up so close to the sea...the incoming tide ROARING onto the shore is NOT a sound that will lull you to sleep!!!

THE MOST AMAZING WEEKEND ...feeling the freedom.
